Welcome!
I’m RG Newhouse, writer, worldbuilder, and unapologetic tea devotee. I believe in the magic of storytelling, the power of found family, and the occasional use of emotional devastation in the name of character growth.
I write speculative fiction, with a focus on fantasy worlds that twist the familiar into something strange and skybound. My current obsession? The Wind Riders universe, a world of floating islands, sentient flight partners, and the high-stakes freedom of the skies.
This blog is my creative hearth. Here, I share the behind-the-scenes mess of the writing process, insights into my worldbuilding, updates on my stories (published and in-progress), and the occasional post fueled entirely by strong tea and chaos.
I share my writing life with three cats and one extraordinary husband. Carmen, a tortoiseshell diva, keeps my computer warm while judging my prose. Nyx, the tiniest black goblin, chases the household’s only braincell but insists on nightly cuddles. Finnegan, my comically long orange boy, hoards the braincell like a dragon with a hoard of chaos. And through it all, my ever suffering and incredibly supportive husband listens patiently to my late night plot twists, wild magic systems, and emotional meltdowns over fictional people. He dreams with me, which makes all the difference.
If you like dragons, skyships, or emotionally unstable protagonists with too much responsibility, you’ll probably feel at home here.
When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading, overthinking character arcs, or crocheting something increasingly unhinged while muttering dialogue to myself.
💫 Fun Facts About Me
- I don’t trust characters who are too well-adjusted. Something’s wrong with them. Something deeply wrong.
- I have a deeply committed relationship with chai lattes. Don’t come between us.
- My brain runs on “what if” scenarios, obscure folklore, and emotional damage.
- My characters need therapy. I need therapy. Only one of us is fictional, and neither of us is getting it anytime soon
- I once crocheted an entire scarf while stuck in worldbuilding purgatory. It’s five feet of guilt.
- I believe the best writing snacks involve sugar, salt, and plausible deniability.
Poke around. Say hi. Stay a while.
There’s tea on the stove, stories in the air, and a whole sky of adventures waiting.
